Description: Plato said, “The part can never be well unless the whole is well.” You cannot be your best self when one part is suffering. To be chemically dependent on any substance is to suffer. You are good; Kiva can make you better. Kiva is a Native American word meaning “shelter.” The Lakota (Native American) phrase “Aho Mitakuye Oyasin,” translates to the idea of oneness—an eternal idea expressed in all great philosophies and Kiva’s approach to treating the Mind-Body-Spirit as one. Kiva Recovery is a temporary shelter from the conditions that produce suffering through substance abuse so a person can begin the process of re-integrating with one’s self and others, or a natural order of harmony producing peace and contentment throughout one’s being and in community with others—family, friends, and the world at-large. The goal at Kiva is not to shelter you from the world, but return you to the world to be better for yourself and others. Yes, the decision to enter any substance disorder treatment program can be fearful—even terrifying for some. It’s an act of surrender without knowing what’s next. It may very well be the end of world as you know it. That’s the point.
